The shabby chic style is an eclectic mixture of textures, designs and colors with a touch of romance thrown in for good measure, so it lends itself to Valentine's Day projects beautifully.
Today's project, a sweet little gift bag, is a little on the "shabby" side. Several different styles of stamps have been layered and collaged to add a bit of vintage romance and soft, muted shades of ColorBox Pigment Inks were used to add to the layered feel...

This little bag is the perfect size to tuck a gift card with a bit of tissue, or maybe some minature perfumes or spa goods.
A lace stamp, inked in 2 shades of ink, provides the background for the project...

A small heart, and poem with cupid design were stamped, cut out and collaged on the front of the bag with a vintage paper rose...

The edges of the heart were smudged with ink while the stamped image was still "wet", so that the inks would smudge together and give the piece a little age...

Several shades of inks were applied to this stamped image to add some "age" as well, the cupid was colored in using Smooch Accent Ink...

A pair of paper rosebuds were tacked onto the folded doily at the top of the bag to add a touch of color and texture...

In order for the doily to slide over the handles of the bag, you need to cut a slit at the center of it...

If you'd like to try this project, here are all the supplies and the directions that you'll need...

Other: kraft gift bag, baker's twine, corsage pin and vintage paper roses

2) Ink Lace Background stamp with Shabby Pink Pigment Ink, then apply touches of Old Rose Ink using Stylus and Blender Tip, stamp on a 3 1/2 X 4 1/2 piece of tan cardstock; when dry, ink edges using Old Rose Ink.
3) When dry, adhere lace background piece to front of bag.
4) Ink poem and cupid stamp using Brown Pigment Ink, then use Stylus and Blender Tip to add touches of Chestnut, Merlot and Amber Satin, then stamp on a piece of kraft cardstock. When dry, cut out and ink edges using Platinum Pigment Ink.
5) Fill in cupid image using Smooch Accent Ink: Gold Lame' for the hair and arrow, Silver Fox for the wings, and Snickerdoodle for the tunic and scrolls.
6) When inks have dried, apply cupid image at lower right of bag at a slight angle.
7) Ink heart using Merlot Pigment Ink and stamp on a scrap of tan cardstock. Let ink set a minute or so, then ink the edge using Cocoa Ink applied with Stylus and Blender Tip to slightly smudge inks at edges.
8) When inks have dried, insert corsage pin at an angle through heart and tie with baker's twine. Adhere heart to bag at upper left of cupid piece tacking at top and bottom only and bending up slightly at the center to add dimension.
9) Adhere paper rose between heart and cupid piece.
10) Stamp doily on kraft cardstock using Creamy White ink. When ink has dried, cut out doily and ink edges using Cocoa ink applied with Stylus and Blender Tip.
11) When inks have dried on doily, use stylus to score down center. Fold doily in half, then use craft knife to slit down center - starting and stopping about 3/4" from each end. Use scissors to widen slit into a slot as shown. {you may have to adjust fit, try on bag and then widen or lengthen as needed}
12) Slip doily topper over handles of gift bag, and adhere 2 paper rosebuds at upper left.
I hope you enjoyed this project and gathered some ideas for projects of your own; please come back soon!
