Home Decor Dream Lamp

I created this lamp shade and lamp base using the new ColorBox Limited Edition Fluid Chalk Inks. I love the rich new palette colors of the ColorBox Fluid Chalks.  Here above are two of my favorites colors, Artic Deep and Sea Crystal.  Color Box Fluid Chalk Inks are soft and have the subtle look of chalk when applied to paper, wood or when rubbed over white acrylic paint. In the photo above, I applied acrylic paint to the lamp base. I next aggressively brushed the Fluid Chalk over the paint, creating a perfect antique and distressed look to the lamp's base.  I heat set the ink, which makes the ink permanent. I used the Color Box Fluid Chalks to create the soft blue background on the paper lamp shade.

Instructions  ( Start with a white paper lamp shade with no pattern)
  • Tap the Stylus Tips blending tool on the Colorbox Limited Edition Arctic Deep Fluid Chalk Ink Pad to pick up a small amount of ink. Now using the Stylus Tips blending tool, blend the ink over the entire lamp shade.
  • Gently shake the River Mossy and Ice Rink Smooch Spritz to make sure the mica is mixed completely with the ink. Holding your Smooch Spritz just a few inches from the inked lamp shade, spray and coat the lamp shade with a layer of Smooch.
  • Tap the Stylus Tips blending tool on the Top Boss Starburst Watermark Twinkle Ink Pad to pick up a small amount of ink. Now using the Stylus Tips blending tool, blend the Watermark Twinkle ink over the entire lamp shade.
  • Let the ink dry completely before moving to the nest step.
  • Tape the Crafters Workshop 6X6 Swirly Vines stencil down to the lamp shade. Using the ColorBox Stylus Circle Tip, apply ColorBox Limited Edition Sea Crystal Fluid Ink to the shade’s surface. Apply the ink using a gentle pounding motion, holding the Stylus straight up and down. Do not use a stroking motion. This motion will keep the ink from seeping under the edges of the stencil. If your stencil seems to be lifting as you ink, use an awl or chopstick to hold the stencil down as you apply ink. I stenciled this on several areas on the lamp shade, stencil as many flourishes until you are happy.
  • Holding a heat gun approximately six inches from the lamp shade, sweep backward and forward over the entire surface of the lamp shade. Do not over heat the surface of the lamp shade with the heat gun because the lamp shade could burn or melt. Using the heat tool will permanently set the ink. Let the ink dry completely before moving the the next step.
  • Carefully peel off the backing of the Clearsnap Vintage Heart Design Adhesives. Place a adhesive pattern on the lamp shade.  Gently lift off the top sheet of the Design Adhesive.

  • I applied two sets of the Vintage Heart Design Adhesives to the lamp shade, add as many patterns until you are satisfied with the design.
  • Lay and press the Clearsnap Lucky Penny Designer Foil (shiny side up) on to Design Adhesive. Gently peel off foil sheet.
  • Stamp "Dream", randomly on the lamp shade using Top Boss Starburst Twinkle Watermark Ink. Sprinkle Top Boss Copper Embossing Powder and emboss the image.

  • Adhere a piece of coordinating trim around the top of the lamp shade's edge using hot glue.

  • Using a hot glue gun, glue a piece of beaded trim around the bottom base of the lamp shade.
  • Overlap a piece of coordinating gold trim over the beaded trim with a hot glue gun.
  • Cover the entire lamp base with a heavy coat of light blue/teal acrylic paint.  Allow the paint to completely dry.
  • Using a dry cotton cloth, aggressively rub the paint off the surface of the lamp base.  Make sure to leave paint in the recessed surface areas of the lamp base.
  • Place the Arctic Deep Fluid Chalk Ink pad in your hand and aggressively rub over the entire surface of the lamp base. This technique will give the lamp base an antiqued appearance.  Ensure the ink is placed in the recessed areas of the lamp base. Do not rub the pad so hard that you destroy the pad's surface.
  • Using a dry cotton cloth, remove the ink from the raised surfaces.  Polish and buff the lamp base using the dry cloth.  Let the base completely dry.
  • Add any additional embellishments to the lamp shade's surface.  I added two Bo Bunny butterfly trinkets.
  • Run a heat tool over the entire surface of the lamp base to permanently set the ink.
  • Place the lamp shade on the lamp base and you have a beautiful home decor piece to showcase anywhere in your home.
