Buttons and Bows

Hello! Hostess Tami here today with a Spring-y project perfect for your baby girl.

A bouquet of colorful flowers were stenciled on a onsie using Crafter's Ink and a template from Crafter's Workshop...

Crafter's Ink is perfect to use on your wearable art projects as it is permanent when heat set, and comes in 14 fashionable colors. Crafter's Inks are super creamy pigment inks that can be used on a multitude of surfaces including wood, clay and fabric just to name a few.

Pairing Crafter's Inks with a template from Crafter's Workshop is an easy way to transform a t-shirt, jeans or in this case a onsie from plain to fabulous in under an hour.

After taping the template down to the onsie, ColorBox Stylus & Tips were used to apply and blend the inks on the fabric. A bow and a few buttons complete the look...

Do think safety when altering or designing clothing for babies or young children. Trims and buttons must be WELL and SECURELY sewn, and checked often for any looseness to prevent them from becoming a choking hazard. This is true for any project intended for our little ones - toys, bedding, etc.

SUPPLIES:
Clearsnap Products:
Other Products:
Tools:
  • Scissors, Cardboard and Masking Tape

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Insert a piece of cardboard a little larger than design area inside onsie.
  2. Tape template down to front of onsie with masking tape at corners.
  3. Begin applying inks, using Stylus & Tips. Make sure pad is well inked but not saturated, then work onto fabric using small circular motions being careful not to get ink under template. You may want to use one hand to hold template in place while you ink with the other.
  4. Continue adding colors and working to fill in designs on template. Don't worry if you get ink outside the outer edges of the template, that ink will be blended later.
  5. After you have filled in all the portions of the design you wish to, carefully blend inks together in the areas between the flowers, then remove template.
  6. Using the Stylus & a clean Tip, gently work to blend inks in outside the edges of the template. Add additional ink if needed to create a "box" of blended ink around the design and to blend areas inside the design if needed.
  7. Allow ink at least 30 minutes, then set iron to setting that corresponds to fabric type. Leave cardboard in place, and cover design with clean white copy paper and begin to iron design. Iron each area several minutes to heat set ink.
  8. Sew on buttons and bow trim to finish.
We'd love to see your altered wearables on our facebook page! If you create something fun and unique using Crafter's Ink, please show it off!

3 of our newest Rollagraph Jumbo Stamp Wheels!!!
PLUS Choose any 3 JUMBO Self Inking Cartridges from the colors below:

AND receive a JUMBO Rollagraph handle to use your new Inks and Wheels in!! Winners will be announced on our blog on April 30, 2012.

I received the most adorable Woodware Craft Collection acrylic stamp set!! These high quality stamps have a wonderfully deep etched quality that works well with any Clearsnap inks.

Apply Stephanie Barnard ColorBox Premium Dye Ink in Chocolate to a Jumbo Rollapgrah Wheel in the Simple Dots pattern. Roll the Wheel along a 4" x 5.25" piece of Basic Grey Basic Kraft Collection Cardstock to give it added texture and depth.

Die Cut a piece of Bo Bunny Homespun Collection Cardstock with a Memory Box Woven Circle Die and ink the edges with ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink in Chestnut Roan. Apply the Die Cut Circle to the center of a 2" circle punched from Bazzill Brown Cardstock using a 3D Foam Tab.

Wrap Ribbon around the card front either horizontally or vertically and adhere to the back of the card front with Adhesive Tap Runner. Apply this card front to the front of a card created from a piece of Bazzill Brown Cardstock cut to 8.5" x 5.5" and folded in half to create a 4.25" x 5.5" card.

Apply the Stacked Circles to the ribbon strip and add a coordinating bow. Stamp one of the icons from the stamp set onto Bo Bunny Homespun Collection Cardstock and cut out, about 1/8" from the edge of the image. The butterfly was stamped in Limited Edition ColorBox Archival Chalk Ink in Sea Crystal, the hand was stamped in Stephanie Barnard ColorBox Premium Dye Ink in Chocolate with a ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink in Lipstick Red heart detail added, and the house was stamped with ColorBox Donna Salazar Mix'd Media Inx in Wisteria.

Stamp sentiments on scraps of Bo Bunny Homespun Collection Cardstock in the same color as the icon for each card and trim into a flag shape. Add to the card front using 3D Foam Tabs.

Set each card into a Color Catcher and spray with Smooch Spritz, from about 18": away -- the butterfly card was misted with Ice Rink Smooch Spritz and the home card was misted with Cashmere Smooch Spritz

To add more detail, Want2Scrap bling was added to the butterfly and sentiment on the butterfly card. The heart on the home card was painted with Smooch Accent Ink in Taffy. After the Smooch had dried, a coating of Smooch Glitz in Pink Fizz was applied over top for a double sparkle effect.

These cards came together in a matter of minutes! They could be give as a set as a gift or kept in your desk for the next time you need a last minute card.

Good morning, Steph here. Today I'm going to show you how I created a card for the men in your life. We love to create, but it seems a little harder for us to create a masculine card.

Clearsnap Supplies:
Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink Blackbird
Jumbo Rollagraph Wheel Marbling
Smooch Inks Siren, Snickerdoodle, Illuminate, Pool, Azure
Banner Wishes
Designer-Foils Seaport, Lucky Penny
Smooch Glitz - Mystified
Donna Salazar Mix'd Media Ink - Denim
Stephanie Barnard Ink - Artichoke, Blueberry

Other Supplies:
Cardstock: Bazzill
Stamps: Woodware Clear Stamps
Dies: Spellbinders

I first stamped the image with Blackbird ink, then put it aside to dry. Using the Rollagraph Wheel with Artichoke Ink, I inked across my card. Afer cleaning the wheel, I then inked across the card with Blueberry Ink.

I die cut the stamped image into a circle, then matted it with a larger black circle. Using Smooch Inks, I "painted" Illuminate on the sails, Siren on the flags, then Snickerdoodle on the ship's hull. I used Pool and Azure Smooch Inks for the water, then added Smooch Glitz on top.

To complete the card, I used "Good Luck" from Banner Wishes Design Adhesives. Seaport was used to cover the words and Lucky Penny created the Banner. To cover any missed sections, I placed Seaport over the entire banner and rubbed again. After cutting out the banner, I matted it with black cardstock and adhered it to the card with foam adhesives.

Thanks for stopping by today.

  • Start with a piece of 4X6" piece of tan card stock.
  • Apply ink to the piece of tan card stock using the Stylus Tips.  Tap the blending tool on the Peach ColorBox Soft Pastels Paintbox Fluid Chalk Ink Pad to pick up a small amount of ink.  Now using the Stylus Tip blending tool, lightly cover the entire piece of tan card stock.
  • Ink the Woodware "Grass" stamp with ColorBox Dark Moss Fluid Ink Pad.  Stamp onto the left side of the card stock. Stamp the entire left edge from the bottom to top.
  • Cut a 1" piece of coordinating tan card stock.
  • Ink the Woodware "Grass" border stamp with Peach ColorBox Soft Pastels Paintbox Fluid Chalk Ink Pad.
  • Cut out the entire Woodware "Grass" border stamp.  Cut a “V” on one end of the stamped image.  Distress the edges of the card stock with ColorBox Dark Moss Fluid Ink Pad. Mat the stamped image with a piece of olive green card stock. Adhere the matted image on the right side of the 4X6 piece of card stock.
  • Cut a piece of 1 ½ X3” piece of olive green card stock.  Cut a piece of  2X 3 ½ ” coordinating tan card stock.  Distress the edges of the two pieces of card stock with ColorBox Dark Moss Fluid Ink Pad.    Adhere the olive green piece of card stock to the tan card stock.   Using a sewing machine, straight stitch around the entire edge of the square and adhere to the lower right of the 4X6" tan card stock.
  • Distress the entire surface of the two pieces of embossed chipboard with ColorBox Jasmine Mix’d Media Inx.   Adhere the chipboard to the 4X6" piece of tan card stock.   Distress the edges of the chipboard with Peach ColorBox Soft Pastels Paintbox Fluid Chalk Ink Pad.  Adhere to the 4X6" tan card stock card.
