Helmar + Clearsnap: So Happy Together! Day 2...

All this week we've teamed up with our friends at Helmar to share inspiring projects, ideas, and more using our inks + Helmar adhesives.

Be sure to visit Helmar on twitter and say "hello" today!! Please let them know that your friends at Clearsnap sent you over :) Scroll down to the end of this post to enter to win today's prize, Design Adhesives, Designer Foils, and Smooch Spritz in Ginger Ale

Now, let's see how Creative Team member Jennifer Priest pairs these shimmery Clearsnap elements with Helmar Adhesive to embellish a decoupaged dress form:

Recently I have been really into creating home decor items from vintage books and found objects. The delicate yet intense shimmer of Smooch Spritz as well as a gilded leaf detail, courtesy of Clearsnap's Design Adhesives and Designer Foils, give this "vintage" style project a modern flair.

Here's how to create this altered dress form:
  1. Apply vintage book pages to a plain paper mache dress form using Helmar's Decoupage & Craft Paste.
  2. Create a large paper flower from vintage dictionary pages - this tutorial shows how to do these flowers on a smaller scale -- the make larger flowers, use 5-6 larger scalloped circles. Large elements like this flower are unwieldy with most adhesive but Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive was perfect for the job, holding the heavy flower in place while drying nearly as quickly as hot glue!
  3. After the flower is in place, tuck random elements behind and around the flower, including a flashcard, small doily, and stick pins, adhering with Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive
  4. Generously spray a chipboard letter "8" with Smooch Spritz in Ginger Ale -- the result is a shimmery yet still kraft colored letter -- it appears almost gilded! Tuck into the embellishment cluster and adhere with Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.

5. Rolled paper roses from dictionary paper (smashing them a bit to distress them), a fabric rosette, a vintage spool of thread, and vintage glass buttons can also be added to the embellishment cluster with Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.

6. Spray the centers of the paper roses with Smooch Spritz in Ginger Ale to make them shimmer.

7. Create rolled paper cones from vintage book pages and adhere to the back of the dress form to create "wings" using Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. Cover the area where the cones meet, in the center of the back, with rolled paper roses.

8. Tie seam binding into a bow. Fold several 12" to 24" long pieces of lace and ribbon in half. Tuck the folded end of the ribbons under the rolled ribbon roses on the wings to create a ribbon waterfall and adhere into place with Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. Add the seam binding bow to the top of the ribbon waterfall.

9. Cut one sheet of Design Adhesives in Orchard Spray into several pieces and apply it to the dress form, radiating out from the embellishment cluster and from beneath the wings. Leave the protective sheet on top of the Design Adhesives in Orchard Spray until Designer Foils are applied.

10. One by one, remove the protective sheet from the Design Adhesives in Orchard Spray (already applied to the dress form) and apply Designer Foils in Goldmine.
11. Generously spray the entire dress form with Smooch Spritz in Ginger Ale.  While wet, draw swirls on the dress form with a water based marker and smear to give the swirls a faded look.
12. Display & enjoy.
