Butterflies in Black and White

Hello, hostess Tami here with a project using this month's spotlight product...
 Molding Mats!

Have you ever used one of ClearSnap's Molding Mats?
They come in an awesome array of patterns and styles and you can use them on a variety of projects with a multitude of mediums. You can use them as stamps {I like to put a piece of double sided tape on the back of them to hold them on a stamping block}, you can impress them into clay or molding paste. And they are great to use on dimensional projects since they are flexible and can be molded to the shape of your item.

For today's project, I used the a Molding Mat with ColorBox Crafter's Ink and Polymer Clay to embellish a tin...

I wrapped some conditioned clay around a tin and impressed the clay at angles across the tin using the Flutterbys Molding Mat. After that, I rolled the dotted pattern along the empty spaces using the Jumbo Rollagraph Handle fitted with the Simple Dots Jumbo Wheel.

I also impressed a small piece of clay and cut out a butterfly to apply separately to add some dimension.

I placed the tin and the butterfly on a parchment lined baking sheet and baked according to the directions on the clay package. I folded up the wings of the single butterfly and propped it against the side of the pan so it would have some shape after baking.

I let the pieces cool, then used the Crafter's Ink in the Mini Size to apply the ink to the impressed designs. I let the ink set for about 5 minutes, then lightly burnished the clay with a clean paper towel to remove any excess ink that got on the raised areas.

A heat gun was used to set the ink, but you could return the pieces to the over to heat set as well.

I used Quick Grip, a fast tack adhesive, from Beacon to adhere the butterfly to the tin...

I liked the distressed look that I got from using black clay and white ink, but you could also use bright colored inks or fill in the designs with Smooch Accent Inks for a more vividly hued design.
