Water, Salt and Sand

Hello, hostess Tami here with a technique to share with you.

Does the title "water, salt and sand" having you thinking about the beach?
It was thoughts of sunnier weather and spring break plans that brought these elements to mind and got me thinking about how to combine them into a technique.

I started with Watercolor Paper from the Donna Salazar Mixed Media Stax. I placed the paper in the ColorBox Color Catcher and lightly sprayed the papers with ColorBox Stephanie Barnard Sprays! I sprinkled salt over the inked papers and spritzed some water over them. The papers were then set aside to dry.

As a final step, the papers were gently sanded to remove the salt. The salt mixes with the ink and water to create subtle speckled patterns as well as giving the papers a soft "cloudy" look. The papers look almost "sueded"...

Here is a closer look at the soft looks and color variations this technique creates...

I used the papers to embellish a tin that some scrapbook supplies were packed in. ColorBox Donna Salazar Mixed Media Chox in Sparrow was used to stamp the designs...

Here's a closeup of the flowers, which were cut out and layered on top of the tin...

The Rollagraph Jumbo Stamping Wheel and Handle were used to add the polka dot pattern on the trim on the side of the tin...
