Hello! Mary Dawn with you today, and I'm bringing you a cool way to use your refills and the Basic Necessities Jumbo Spritz Bottle.
I used a Craft Funnel, Basic Necessities Jumbo Spritz Bottles and several Mix'd Media Inx Refills along with rubbing alcohol to make my own colored ink mists. I just put in enough ink to make a fairly opaque spray. You can use dye ink refills to create your own ink sprays, but only pigment ink will result in opaque sprays. And sometimes not even then, more on that in a moment. |
I used a variety of colors of Mix'd Media Inx Refills as well as Colorbox Frost White Refill and rubbing alcohol to make these sprays. I may go back and experiment some more with a water/alcohol mixture, but for now I'll let you know what worked for me with just alcohol. The Mossy, Wisteria and Patina Mix'd Media Inx were my best successes--the ink didn't separate and the colors were comparable to the original color. Peaches Inx Refill, Jasmine Inx, and Colorbox Frost White refills didn't work out just mixing the refill with alcohol - I was looking for an opaque effect from the spray. I tried adding more refill, less alcohol--it just wasn't a success. Perhaps adding distilled water only might have a better result. |
I sprayed my 3 successes (also my 3 favorite colors in the Donna Salazar Inx Line) onto watercolor paper. Because I mixed these sprays with alcohol only, they dry very quickly, even on watercolor paper. |
These are my backgrounds after they were completely dry. I love the way the spray dried where it puddled. |
I stamped my backgrounds with the Faux Postal Jumbo Stamping Wheel using the Coal Black Ancient Page Ink Cartridge in the Jumbo Self-Inking Handle. I cut my "postage stamps" apart and chose my two favorite images for today's project. I had plenty of beautiful images left for some quick card projects later. |
Next, I stamped two Hero Arts Kraft Notecards using the Simple Dots Jumbo Stamping Wheel and the Top Boxx Watermark Cartridge in the Jumbo Self-Inking Handle. |
Then I chose some Twinery Twine to coordinate with the images I chose. |
I stamped my Hero Arts sentiment onto kraft cardstock using Colorbox Archival Dye Ink Wicked Black. |
I used a Hero Arts & Sizzix Frame-Cuts Die to cut my sentiments. |
I used my elements to create two different cards. |

Pretty card! I am always interested in learning how to put my stash of products to use in new ways. I never thought of adding the alcohol to the mix. Thanks for the great tutorial! :)

ReplyDeleteVery cool!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the gorgeous color you achieved with creating your own mists!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your card MD! It's so awesome!
ReplyDeleteVery cool. I like using alcohol instead of water too, because it evaporates instead of soaking into my paper!
ReplyDeleteThat is very cool!! I love how the colors blended so nicely and I adore that stamping wheel. I have seen them but never purchased one because I was afraid they wouldn't work well. Now that I have seen your work, I see that they are great and quick!!! Thank you for sharing your idea!!!
ReplyDeleteLove how you used the INk. I'll have to put this on my new craft to try list. Thanks for sharing.
