Silk and Roses Valentine Decor

Hello! Hostess Tami here with another Valentine project to share with you.

Having two boys does NOT give me too many opportunities to do frilly, feminine crafts, so  I enjoy going all out for Valentine's day!

This romantic décor piece features silk in pretty pastels that has been hand dyed using ColorBox Archival Dye Refill Inks...

ColorBox Archival Dye Refill Inks are perfect to use to dye natural fiber fabrics, felts, ribbons and more. You can use them full strength for VERY vivid hues, or mix them with water to create soft pastels like I did for this project. Hand dying your textiles and trims is an economical way to get LOTS of colors from just one source. I made this project using just a 1/4 yard piece of silk and still have LOTS of fabric left over for more projects!

To get a variegated look on the dyed silk, the dye inks were not thoroughly mixed with the the water. This created lighter and darker areas in the fabric. If you want a more consistent color, then mix the dye ink in completely.

The roses are made from the silk the same way you make paper spiral flowers...

The wood frame was first spritzed with Smooch Spritz, then sprinkled with
Fairy Dust Glitter adhered with Beacon's Fast Finish and sealed with their Decoupage Gloss Sealer...

This short, 3 minute video will show you how to make this project step-by-step...

You can also use the ColorBox Stephanie Barnard Premium Dye Inks to use with this technique as well.

  1. This project looks great, but I can't get the video to work. I'd like to see how the roses are made. Thanks!
