" Spring, I Hear Birds Singing" Cupcake Tower


Hello, Charlotte here and today I am excited to share with you my fun and easy "Spring, the Birds are Singing" cupcake tower.   I love spring, I love the renewal of life and the beginning of outdoor parties and gatherings.  What could be more perfect for a spring gathering or party than..a colorful cupcake tower.

  • Paint stand pestestals with purple arcylic paint, you may need to apply several coats of paint. Tape the Crafters Workshop 6X6 Swirly Vines stencil down to the pestestals. Using teal acrylic paint, apply the paint to the pestestal's surface.  Apply the paint using a gentle pounding motion, holding the paintbrush straight up and down. Do not use a stroking motion.  This motion will keep the paint from seeping under the edges of the stencil.  If your stencil seems to be lifting as you paint, use an awl or chopstick to hold the stencil down as you apply paint. I stenciled this on both sides of the pedestal.  Stencil as many flourishes until you are happy. 
  • Measure and cut paper to fit the circle base plates.  Adhere the paper to the circle base plates. Using the Rollagraph Stamp Wheel and Rollagraph Self-Inking Handle, stamp the entire surface of all the cut circle pieces of paper. Additionally, I repeatingly stamped a Birdcage image on the circle base plates.
  • Cut a  nine 1" wide strips of paper.  I used the Country Garden Collection by          Bo Bunny.  You will need to cut enough strips to adhere to all three tiers.  Adhere the strips together. Glue as many strips together as needed to cover the circumfrance of each tier.  After gluing the strips together, I repeatingly stamped a sentiment accross the entire strip of paper with ColorBox Stephanie Barnard Grape Dye Ink.  Distress the edges of the paper strips with ColorBox Blackberry Pigment Ink. Attach paper strips to the outside edges of the tiers.

  • Asssemble plates and tiers acording to package directions.
  • Add flowers and embellishments of your choice to the sides of each tier of the circle base plates.  I added paper blooms and a butterfly.

Instructions for building the topper

  •  Cut a piece of 8"X8" piece of coordating paper. Cut the paper to fit and cover 1/2 of the inside of the pail.  Insert and adhere the paper to the pail wall.
  • Cut a 6 X 1/2" strip of coordinating paper. Stamp a sentiment across the entire paper strip, using a rubber stamp. When dry, ink the edges using Colorbox Canary Fluid Chalk Ink.  Adhere the stamped strip of paper to the upper edge of the pail.
  •  Place the pail on a piece of coordinating paper and trace the bottom of the pail. Cut out the circle and glue to the inside bottom of the pail.
  • I made a large yellow paper bloom and adhered the bloom to the paper circle inside the bottom of the pail. 
  • I next added floral branches and paper flowers inside the pail.  I nestled and adhered a faux bird to the branches inside the pail.  Arrange the branches and flowers until satified with the design.
  • Adhere any additional embellishments to the pail lid. I use coordinating paper flowers, a bird nest and placed a faux bird inside the nest. 
  • Place the topper on the upper tier of the cake cake stand.
