Thrifted Frame Altered With Smooch Spritz, Mixd Media Inx & Fairy Dust Glitter

Hello, it's Mary Dawn here with a photo tutorial of how I altered a thrifted frame using Clearsnap inks and glitter. 

First I cleaned my thrifted frame and then I painted it with 3 coats of acrylic gesso.

When my final coat of gesso was dry, I used Donna Salazar Mix'd Media Inx Patina and a Colorbox Stylus and White Foam Tip to add color to the raised motifs on the frame. 

When I was finished adding the Patina Inx to my frame, I sprayed it with Smooch Spritz Vanilla Shimmer. I did this before the pigment ink was completely dry and the ink feathered slightly. 

Once my paint, ink and spritz layers were dry I chose some Buttercream Divine Twine to coordinate with my project. 

I cut some small banner shapes from kraft cardstock and stamped them with the Mix'd Media Inx Patina and a stamp from My Mind's Eye. Pigment inks are ideal for stamping with clear stamps that aren't made of photopolymer, their thicker consistency allows for an even inking that won't bead up on the stamp like thinner dye inks do.

I used the Mix'd Media Inx Patina to color a mulberry flower. 

I simply rolled the flower around in the ink to get a bit on the edge of each petal.

Then I sprayed the flower quite liberally with Smooch Spritz Vanilla Shimmer. The Spritz caused the ink to feather and lighten a bit. 

When the spritz was dry, I used Glue Gloss to add Donna Salazar Fairy Dust Glitter Pralines and Cream to the flower for some extra shimmer.  

I glued my stamped banner pieces to the twine that I suspended from the back of the painted and inked frame. I added some Authentique Diction Stickers and a vintage button to further embellish my stamped banners. I didn't add a back to my altered piece, allowing the banner to float freely and the wall color to show through.
