"Smooch" Your Veggies!

Hello! Hostess Tami here with an "on the cheap" decor idea for you.

I was browsing a craft store trying to find some inspiration {I wish someone would bottle THAT up and put it on the shelf} when I came across some small wood pieces with seed packet designs. They were on clearance {BONUS!} and had a cute wire hanger. I was debating on getting some, thinking I could use the blank BACKside to do something with when the lightbulb went off!

Just because these pieces are usually painted using acrylic paint didn't mean that was the only way to finish them. I could "Smooch" them up using Smooch Accent Inks! Smooch is gorgeous on wood, and with the fabulous tiny precision tip, I would have no trouble at all coloring the designs. I think these would be cute as kitchen decor, or you could add a clear coat and use them to make your fall garden.

Here's a before shot of the set...

and here is the set after they'd been "Smooched-Up"!

And here is a closer look at the Pea Pod plaque, it's the one in the How-To video below...

I spritzed the plaques with Spun Sugar and Caramel Latte Smooch Spritz first to "antique" the background areas. And because Smooch Accent Inks are nice and opaque, they really cover well, and one coat is all you need to cover the areas of the design that were spritzed.

I used Chestnut Roan Chalk Ink to distress the edges and add a little more "vintage" to the plaques.
Two good tips when you are working on wood with your Smooch Accent Inks are:
  • work with the grain
  • dab instead of paint
Both of these tips will keep your wonderfully precise brushes in good condition. Wood is rough and you need to be gentle when you apply your inks or you could damage the brush.

If you'd like to see how these pieces went from "before" to "after", please watch this short video - it will show you all the steps...

Another good tip when filling in designs with your Smooch Accent Inks, especially stamped or printed black outlines, is to keep a waterproof, fine tip black pen handy. If you accidentally ink over a line {or in my case LINES}, you can just draw the line back in!

When I know I'll be filling in a stamped image with Smooch Accent Inks, I almost always emboss - that way I have RAILS to keep the color in the area it is supposed to be!

I hope you'll give this a try either on pre-printed wood pieces, or blank ones you stamp yourself!
