Using watercolor paper, I created the background with gesso and Stephanie Barnard's Premium Dye Ink Spray in "Artichoke." I know what you're saying, why use gesso if it's going to resist the ink? Well, I wanted to purposely add resistance to achieve a more controlled "blot" of ink-which would've been impossible to do with fast drying ink and very absorbent paper.
This is a picture showing the page still wet. I applied gesso to the background and let dry (you can use a heat gun as well). I then sprayed a small pool of water followed by a few spritz of Stephanie Barnard Dye Ink Spray in "Artichoke" (a combination of the paint and water causes the color variegation). Just a side note: I don't mind over-spray but if you do....the closer you spray the less over-spray you'll get and vice versa. I moved the mixture around until i was happy with my "blot." Next, I dried the ink with a heat gun. Because the gesso stops absorption, it will take a longer time for the ink to dry.
Here are a few close-ups:
I'm a huge fan of layers, and Clearsnap's Designer Foils and Design Adhesives added some very cool dimension (the leaves are Design Adhesives topped with Designer foil in "Warm Gold"). I "framed" the photo with the leaves and built up from there.
I sprayed the tags with Smooch Spritz in Log Cabin. The flag banners are just scraps of paper that I created using the "Say What" Jumbo Rollagraph Stamp (wheel) and self-inking handle with an Ancient Page dye ink cartridge in "Neptune" (very pretty color!). Any edge I could ink is inked in Colorbox's "Chestnut Roan" Fluid Chalk Ink!; the heart and title are both inked with Fluid Chalk Ink in "Pumpkin Spice."
