I love the look of coloring in and inking up vintage and
collaged images, especially on a small scale. By creating ATC sized collages,
you can experiment with many new techniques, styles, themes and supplies to create
fun works of art.
Today I'm going to show you how to piece together paper,
images and clearsnap inks to create collaged atc’s that take on a world filled
with magic, wizards and anthromorphic whimsy.
Materials
-Chipboard sized 3 ½ by 2 ½ inches
-Chipboard
accents -Scrapbook
paper (scraps are perfect for ATCs)
-Watercolor paper
-Vintage images, Lisa Kettell Designs
-Mixed
media inks, variety of colors, Clearsnap
-Fluid
chalk ink pad, variety of colors, Clearsnap
-Colorbox pigment inks, variety of
colors, Clearsnap -Glitter, Clearsnap
-Glue: decoupage medium, tacky glue, glue stick
Directions
1. Place a piece of scrapbook paper or watercolor paper onto
the cut 3 ½ by 2 ½ piece of chipboard, adhere in place with a glue stick.
2. Coat your paper lined chipboard with a variety of
colorbox inks, mix blues and purples, oranges and pinks for fun contrast.
3. Next layer vintage image onto chipboard, adhere in place
with a glue stick, cut out. Try mixing vintage bird body images with a vintage
doll or girl head image for the face. Think out of the box, morphing images
together to create a one of a kind character.
3. Begin antiquing and distressing your ATC using fluid
chalk ink pads and mixed media ink pads, rubbing into place using your fingers,
dip paint brush into water and swirl around the applied inks to lighten the
ink, next use additional mixed media ink colors to edge up the sides of the
ATC.
4. Next seal in place with decoupage medium, add some
glitter where desired and 3-D embellishments, secure in place with tacky glue.
5. Finally, for more dimension, trace around your collaged
image with a thin pencil or black ink pen.
