Check out the Viva Las Vegas Stamps blog today for two unqiue, innovative projects!

Today we're featuring two projects from our Creative Team!!

Megan Aaron and Jennifer Priest both have Doctor Who on the brain! VLV's Police Box stamp is a perfect replica for the "Tardis" *character* of the sci-fi TV series and both Jennifer and Megan work the stamp into their pieces in completely different ways. First up, Megan Aaron shares a Doctor Who inspired canvas:

Oh these stamps are so much fun!!! I saw this 'police box' and couldn't resist doing a Dr. Who inspired mini canvas. I also chose this beautifully detailed victorian steampunk lady. I have never done a canvas before, and I think I still have a lot to learn, but I'm pretty happy with the results. I stamped the police box aka Tardis, in black Stephanie Barnard Dye ink, then colored it in with some Crafter's Ink in Wave. The Crafter's ink is so thick and slow drying that I was able to use a small paint brush and actually paint with it! I also used that technique on the victorian lady a little bit. I wanted her steampunk details to be copper, but I didn't have any Smooch Accent ink in Copper, so I colored them in with orange and then used a little bit of Pigment ink in Copper applied with a paint brush. The rest of the lady was done with Smooch accent ink and  Crafter's Minis. The copper embellishments were created from Want2Scrap chipboard (and one random metal finding) covered with Copper Pigment ink. I stamped the sentiment on WordWin Vellum in Stephanie Barnard Dye ink and then heated it a little to make sure it was set on the vellum.

The background canvas was something I found on the clearance rack for about 10 cents. It had a picture of a fruit or something on it. I covered it in a couple of layers of Gesso. Then I stamped and colored the lady. Next, I masked her off and applied some modeling paste in a thin layer and ran my rollograph dots cartridge over it to add some texture. After that was dry, I used some Stephanie Barnard Dye ink Spray in Blueberry mixed with water to paint the background. Then I added the swirls with more modeling paste and a putty knife. Again I painted with the Dye ink spray, but this time I mixed some grape in with the blueberry and water. (I just used a tiny container and added a couple drops of the ink and a couple drops of water) The grass was created with the putty knife and painted in the same manner, but first with spearmint then again with Artichoke. Then, with the lady masked off, I sprayed the whole thing with some Smooch mist in Vanilla shimmer.

Finally, I added the cut out Tardis on foam tape, and the other accents.

Next up, Jennifer Priest shares a Tardis inspired greeting card, perfect to send to any sci-fi fan!

My husband is a huge Doctor Who fan so whenever I see a police box, I think "Tardis"! I recently started playing with stamping on glossy paper and was so pleased to discover that Mix'd Media Inx® CHOX dry instantly and permanently when stamped on glossy paper!

I stamped the police box in Mix'd Media Inx CHOX in BlueJay directly onto some glossy paper (actually, its 4x6 photo paper leftover from my printer). Then I sprayed ColorBox®
Stephanie Barnard Sprays! in Blueberry over the top of the police box image, alternating with sprays of water in an empty Smooch® Spritz bottle. I allowed the ink to run "up" by turning the paper so the police box was upside down.

After the ink was dry, I punched some holes in the glossy paper, distressed the edges, and stitched it to a piece of glittered cardstock. I then added some washi tape, a few splatters of Smooch® Accent Ink in Ocean Soul and Azure, a little Smooch® Glitz in Mystified, and stamped a sentiment with Mix'd Media Inx® Chox in Midnight.

  15. My daughter is a huge Dr. Who fan as well. I laughed when I read that you think Tardis when you see this stamp because thats what I thought the first time I saw it as well! How funny. I'm also totally stoked to find out that the Mixed media Chox ink dries quickly because i've tried other kinds that dry to slowly and end up smearing on glossy paper. Awesome!
