Through The Looking Glass

Hello and happy Earth Day! I have an up-cycled project to share with you today in honor of the holiday and it would make a great gift for Mother's Day as well. This hand mirror frame was broken awhile back and it landed in the "save for someday" pile only to be recently rediscovered. Once I realized the hole at the top would be perfect for hanging, I set to work to create a new reflection for it.

Using the Mix'd Media Inx line, I created and altered several items to add some feminine embellishments and keeping with the mixed media theme, there are lots of textures here to add interest. I just love how juicy these ink pads are - perfect for blending and adding many layers of color. The photo of my mother and I is from 1985. She was so young and beautiful!

Instructions:
1. Cut corrugated cardboard to fit inside the frame. Ink cardboard with Mix'd Media Inx (MMI)  and adhere to frame.
2. Stamp vellum with Peaches MMI. Heat set to dry and mount photo.
3. Die cut flower parts. Stamp with Patina MMI. Layer petals and secure with pearl brad. Add Smooch Glitz in Starlight to petals.
4. Die cut leaves. Stamp with Mossy MMI and adhere behind flower.
5. Ink canvas flower with Stormy MMI.
6. Cover chipboard bird with Jasmine MMI. Add eye and wing using Smooch Accent Ink in Tuxedo. While ink is still wet, sprinkle with Fairy Dust glitter in Sugar Shimmer.
7. Stamp chipboard scallop with MMI in Stormy, Patina and Jasmine.
8. Apply Design Adhesive to pink cardstock and cover with Silver Fog Designer Foil. Cut out around design.
9. Stamp butterfly in Peaches MMI. Outline with Smooch Accent Ink in Tuxedo. Cut out.
10. Stamp and emboss "MOM" onto die cut label using MMI and coordinating embossing powder in Jasmine.
11. Layer inked embellishments, photo mat, ribbon and accents onto the frame.
12. Add bling around frame to finish.

Tips & Tricks:
- Home decor pieces are more likely to be handled and dusted - use hot glue to keep everything in place!
- Try watercolor paper when creating handmade flowers for extra texture. It can also stand up to many layers of ink!
