Step Away from the White Paper!

Hey everyone Denise Hahn here, as I was sorting through my never ending pile of paper, I came across this unique sheet of iridescent purple/green paper. It made me think, "Why do I always just go for white paper when stamping or doing mixed media?" So I challenged myself to not use plain white paper and came up with this mixed media inspired card. I used the purple cardstock for the base, then used Graph Paper for the focal base. In my paper sorting I also found some lovely Canson lavender pearl paper to stamp and emboss the butterflies. Not a single piece plain white paper was used. The iridescence of the paper got me thinking how else could I bring that into my card? I stamped my image using Twinkle Watermark in Pearl then some clear iridescent embossing powder. I included the steps I used to make this card at the bottom- so why not challenge yourself and try to "step away from the white!".

Supplies:

  • Donna Salazar Mix'd Media Inx in Wisteria and Stormy
  • Twinkle Watermark in Pearl
  • Clearsnap Embossing Powder Iridescent
  • Memory Essentials Sylus and Tips
  • Stamp (Large) Hampton Art
  • Stamp (Butterfly) Impression Obsession
  • Sticker- Simple Stories Vintage Bliss Stickers
  • Crafters Workshop Stencils
  • Adhesive- Xyron Creative Station 5 Inch

Instructions:
-Choose a dark colored carsdtock for base and fold in half- stencil on bottom left and top right
-Take a piece of graph paper and stamp a large background image onto it with Twinkle Watermark in Pearl- sprinkle with iridescent Embossing powder and heat set
-stamp butterfly image with Twinkle and emboss
-Use Donna Salazar mixed media inx to create an ombre background-then do some more stenciling in the corners. Lightly go over embossed butterflies with more inx. Wipe excess ink off of embossed areas with a paper towel
-Trim graph paper to size, then cut out butterflies
-Run graph paper through a 5inch Xyron creative station or use a Mega Runner and attach to center of card
-Fold butterflies slightly and glue down in the center with tacky glue or hot glue
-Attach sentiment sticker
-When glue dried bend up wings of butterflies to give dimension
-Add another piece of graph paper to interior for writing.
Have fun and remember , stamping is not just for white paper!
-Denise
