January is a fantastic time to get organized!
Are all those loose things (photos, papers, adhesives, ribbon, scissors, inks and stamps) in your scrap space making your head spin? Figuring out how to properly store your scrapbook supplies means you will not waste time digging and searching through piles and stacks of supplies! I have spent so much money on "trendy or artsy containers" that give me the feeling of being organized. What I usually find, is I have not efficiently organized my supplies in those costly containers but only put the supplies in "storage". I still have to dig through those "trendy" containers losing precious scrapping time. The last few years, I have been really working on solutions that personally meet my storage needs and personal preferences in an economical way! For me, I have found out I have been able to solve many of my needs by making my own storage solutions! This year, my ribbon storage has been making my head spin, so I decided to solve my ribbon storage problem. Today, I am sharing how make a easy personalized ribbon box using a basic shoe box. The ribbon box holds 32 spools of ribbon in this single case. You can simply pull and cut the ribbon that you need. I just used the ribbon box today and it is efficient and works wonderfully! For this project I wanted to use inks that were super durable, waterproof and light-fast because the box will be sitting out on a shelf exposed to the hazards of a craft room. The Ancient Page Inks are a perfect match for this project!

Direction
- Remove any stickers or labels if you are upcycling a used shoebox.
- Cut two ¼-inch holes, spacing the holes 4-inches apart of both ends of the shoebox.
- Cut two 1/4-inch in diameter dowel rods 3-inches longer than the length of the shoe box.
- Measure and cut the paper to fit the sides and top of the shoe box. Using the Rollagraph Stamp Wheel and Rollagraph Self-Inking Handle, stamp the entire surface of all the cut pieces of paper.
- Gently shake the Log Cabin Smooch Spritz to make sure the mica is mixed completely with the ink. Holding your Smooch Spritz just a few inches from the inked paper, spray and coat the paper with a layer of Smooch.
- Stamp a flourish image using Ancient Page Chocolate Waterproof Dye Ink pad on the top and bottom corners of each piece of paper. Ink a sentiment stamp with the Ancient Page Chocolate Ink Pad and stamp the image randomly on the paper pieces.
- Apply Mod Podge to the back of the papers and adhere the paper pieces to the shoe box. Make sure the edges of the paper are firmly adhered to the shoe box.
- Distress the edges of the box by inking the edges with the Ancient Page Petal Point Earthworks Chocolate Petal Pad.
- Use an eyelet setter to punch holes in the shoe box lid. Punch two rows of sixteen, spacing the two rows 4-inches apart. (You can place the holes in the shoe box lid or on the sides of the shoe box) Make sure the eyelet setter matches the size of the eyelet you want to use. Otherwise, your hole will be too big or too small for your eyelet.
- Insert one of your eyelets through the hole that has been punched in the shoe box lid. Turn the shoe box lid over so that the backside (the tabbed side) of the eyelet is facing upward.
- Place the tip of your eyelet setter inside of the hole that is on the back of the eyelet. Hit the top of the eyelet setter with a hammer. This will cause the back of the eyelet to flatten against the shoe box lid. Continue this until all of the eyelets have been set in the shoe box lid.
- Place 1/4" eyelets in the four holes punched in step two listed above. Insert the four large eyelets in the side of the shoe box as described in step listed above.
- Put the dowel into one end of the box, and stick it through each ribbon spool. Push the dowel through the hole on the opposite end. Stick a thumbtack into the side of the end of each dowel so it presses against the shoebox to keep the dowel from sliding out of the box.
- Feed the ribbon through the eyelets in the shoe box lid. Put the shoe box lid back into place.
What a great idea! I need this so bad. I have spools of ribbon everywhere!
