Today we are so excited to be hopping with our friends from Bascially Bare!! All week long our teams are sharing projects created with Clearsnap and Basically Bare products. Do hang on tight - inspiration awaits!
And, to sweeten the deal, we're doing a little giveaway!!! Each day of the Hop we'll give away a different Clearsnap goodie that will help you "alter" Bascially Bare's "alterable items". To enter, just leave a comment below. Today's prize is...........
Today, Charlotte Jenkins & Sabrina Alery share two adorable baby themed projects!
The embellishments from Basically Bare are designed with you in mind! Paint them, dye them, mist them, cover them with paper or ink them....the possibilities are only as endless as your creativity. Alter and distress until your heart's content, these tough little embellies are made from premium materials and can take the abuse. Believe me, I really distressed this baby carriage to get that Shabby Chic feel....and the pieces held up to the aggressive distressing.
- Choose a selection of light blue papers to cover the the entire Basically Bare chipboard pieces.
- Measure and cut the paper to fit the the front and back of the two chipboard carriages and four chipboard wheels.
- Apply Mod Podge to the back of the papers and adhere the paper pieces to the chipboard. Cover the the front and back of both pieces of the carriage chipboard and the four wheels.
- Once the papers have dried, aggressively distress the edges of the carriage and wheels with a distressing tool sanding block.
- Ink distress the edges of the carriage and wheels with ColorBox Dark Moss Fluid Chalk ink pad.
- Next you will need to cut one 12" rectangle of coordinating paper. This rectangle will be used to join the sides of the carriage together to give it it's 3D shape.
- Score along both long sides of the 12" rectangle cut paper with scissors or a craft knife.
- After scoring the paper, place a strip of double sided tape along the whole length of both sides of the rectangle. Peel the backing paper off the double sided tape. Slowly start to stick the rectangle paper to the inside sides of the carriage following the curve as you go. I worked from the bassinet top of the carriage to the handle.
- Cut a 1" strip of coordinating paper and glue the strip of paper to the chipboard edge just under the stroller handle of both pieces of chipboard. When finished you will have a three-dimensional stroller.
- Glue the four wheels to the inside base of the carriage.
- Add a congrats sentiment and adhere to the base of the carriage.
- Glue trim along both sides of the carriage and around the top of the bassinet.
- Adhere a ribbon bow, paper blooms, rhinestones or any embellishments.
- I added some Smooch to the flowers and wheels to give the carriage some shimmer.

Because the Mix'd Media Inx pads are so incredibly juicy, I find them ideal for inking up any surface but especially chipboard. I was able to ink up and clear emboss the shapes and the original color of the ink still shines through instead of being absorbed into the chipboard. The color also transferred perfectly to the felt and onto the acrylic without any slipping and sliding. To make the stars twinkly, I embossed with Top Boss Opalescent Clear embossing powder. And bonus for finding a way to add glitter to a boy project!
The shapes make the sweetest mobile for hanging in a baby boy's nursery and I love that I was able to ink up everything to exactly match the quilt and bedding it will be hanging above. That's the great thing about ink - all the customization possibilites :)
A couple tips:
1. When heat embossing on acrylic, you must hold the heat gun at a distance and be patient to avoid warping/melting the shape. I really need to master this one!
2. Hot glue the twine to the back of the hanger to keep everything perfectly in place.
3. Balance out any pieces that are hanging all wonky with a nut or magnet glued to the back or hang a button from the bottom to weigh down.
4. Cover all the knots that secure the twine at the top with a simple fabric bow.
