DINO-MITE Kid Stuff

Hello, hostess Tami here with a card that my son and I made. A cute dinosaur themed birthday card...

Do you have a crafty kid? My just turned 11 son Chris enjoys lots of different crafts, stamping among them. When I get a box of new inky goodies from ClearSnap, Chris is right there to see what's inside!

Did you know that ClearSnap has a line of products just for YOUR little crafter? The My First ColorBox line contains not only specially designed, child-safe, washable inks, but lots of adorable kid themed stamp sets as well...

My son found some printed papers from Bazzill's Dino-Mite line that he wanted to use to make a card. So I pulled out the Dinos stamp set from the My First ColorBox line that coordinated very well with the papers. I also gave him the Birthday set to use for the sentiment for the card. Next came the inks, and with all the colors to choose from, it was easy to find several that matched the colors in the papers: Brown, Light Blue, Blue, Turquoise, Lime and Orange.

We cut strips from several of the printed papers and laid them out on the card, a 5 X 12 piece of cream cardstock, folded in half...

We then used a pencil to lightly mark along the inner strips to section off the upper right area of the card. This is where we wanted to stamp the dinosaurs.

Chris selected 3 dinosaurs and 3 ink colors and began stamping in the marked area. He was a little frustrated when he got some small smudges and corner marks on the card. Being a bit of a messy stamper myself, I have some "secret weapons" to turn "little mistakes" into "design elements"!

In this case, I suggested that Chris add some dots using his finger dipped in ink. He loved the idea of getting messy and the dots covered up the small "mistakes".

Since one of the papers had stars on it, I suggested Chris use a star shaped chipboard tag to add the sentiment for the card.

More finger-inking transformed the plain white tag to a coordinating blue. Chris dabbed his finger in the Light Blue ink and lightly rubbed it along the textured surface of the tag. He used the Blue ink around the edges. If your crafty kid is the "neat" type, you could have them apply the ink using ColorBox Stylus & Tip.

He stamped the sentiment first in Brown ink and then in again in Blue ink, and cut around the blue "happy" and the brown "Birthday" so that the sentiment would be two-toned. {More advanced little stampers could mask off the words.} He ran the edges of the cut out words around the Orange inkpad. Then adhered the words to the card, using foam squares to adhere "happy".

The star was adhered to the card using a BIG brad. The brad was covered in cardstock, so Chris ran it lightly over the Lime inkpad so that it would match.

Here's the finished star...

Junior crafters enjoy having their "own" supplies, and the My First ColorBox line of inks and stamps is a perfect way to start them off!
