Pocket Change

Hello, hostess Tami here an upcycled project for you, a coin purse made from a pocket cut from a pair of jeans...

If you have kids, you know just how fast they GROW! I was doing some Spring cleaning and had my boys try on almost all their clothes to see what still fit and what didn't. We ended up with a BIG bag of clothing to donate, including a big stack of hardly worn jeans. I decided to hold onto a few pairs in case I wanted to use the denim for future projects or classes.

While folding them up to put them away, I noticed how cute the pockets were on one pair of jeans, and that got me to thinking about what I could use them for. The phrase "pocket change" came to mind and I thought what a cute coin purse the pocket would make.

The NEW! ColorBox Crafter's Inks are perfect to use when stamping or inking up fabric. They are very creamy, very opaque and are permanent on fabrics when heat set. While the inks are opaque enough to show on regular denim, they are brighter on lighter colors and I happened to have some white denim on hand. So that is what the flowers were stamped on.

I didn't have velcro on hand for a closure, and I didn't want to drag out the showing machine to make a buttonhole, so I decided on an easy closure made by sewing a button on the flap, and stitching on a length of twine below it. Just wrap and unwrap the twine around the button to open and close.

If you'd like to make one of these coin purses yourself {great, inexpensive gift idea!}, just watch this short 2 minute video to see how it's done...
