Wings of Bling * Mixed Media Canvas by Jennifer Priest

This month our team has been having a blast creating mixed media projects using our Donna Salazar DesignsMix'd Media Inx and Fairy Dust Glitter!! But what about a mixed media canvas? These blendable inks are perfect for creating mixed media art, like this canvas that I created in about an hour:

This canvas features a variety of technqiues, the first of which is to decoupage book pages onto a blank, stretched canvas. I like to work with these small 4x4 and 6x6 canvases because I can work them onto book shelves and between portraits in my home. Plus, they are easy to finish in a short amount of time!

Next, spray the canvas with Smooch Spritz on the top in one color (say, Navy Twinkle) and along the bottom in another color (say, Gold Glow). Then spray with water and allow one color to drip into the other for an ombre effect. Blot dry with a paper towel. Repeat until the color is the desired intensity.

Color the center of a chipboard butterfly with Smooch Accent Ink in Ocean Soul. Color the tips of the wings with Smooch Accent Ink in Olive Twist, blending with the Ocean Soul ink using the brush applicator. Wrap copper wire around a bead and create antennae with jewelry pliers. Glue the bead/antennae to the body of the butterfly. Use a hot glue gun to glue elements to the canvas in a cluster along one side. Create a rose from the measuring tape and add to the canvas. Click here for a tutorial on how to make a rose from ribbon (or a measuring tape).

Use the Smooch Accent Ink in Olive Twist to freehand paint a butterfly wing onto the canvas. Doodle on the wing with a black pen. Next, lay a Stencil1 butterfly stencil over the wing. Using the Stylus & Tips Set, sponge Donna Salazar Designs Mix'd Media Inx in Denim and Stormy through the stencil to add detail to the butterfly wing.

Remove the stencil and shake Top Boss Clear Embossing Powder onto the *still tacky* Donna Salazar Designs Mix'd Media Inx wing. Set with a heat gun. Hang on your wall to enjoy!
